Selah Sue

Sanne Putseys’s lyrics are white but her voice sounds black. “I write as a singer-songwriter but I prefer to sing black music; soul or blues or drum and bass or ragga.” Her unconditional love for Erykah Badu, Lauryn Hill and Bob Marley was picked up in Paris where she found her home in Because Music, the same label that represents Manu Chao, Christine and the Queens and Justice. In no time at all she was a hit in France and the Benelux. Her latest album ‘Persona’ (2022) is a carefully crafted piece of art. Selah Sue writes each song from the point of view of one of her numerous personalities or ‘me’s. The songs are sunny and swinging just like back in the day, supported by an international cast of colourful characters from the entourages of Anderson .Paak, Pharrell Williams and the late Prince.
